Utu Korhonen (b. 2001) is a Finnish Seinäjoki-born, Tampere-based visual artist whose works explore mental health, emotions and memories, feminism and their queer-identity. Their main medium is painting, but they also use others such as drawing, photography and sewing.
Korhonen’s inspiration comes most often from their own struggles with their mental health. Their art is open and vulnerable, showing and exploring the fragility of being a human. From severe depression to an eating disorder, their works hold a mirror to the viewer, helping them understand their own thoughts and emotions. Underneath the heavy topics, Korhonen wants to talk openly about these issues and show that no one is alone with their struggles.
Alongside mental health, pop-culture, literature, and nostalgia work as sources for inspiration for Korhonen. Their works often reference songs, novels, movies or memories, that have made an impact on their life.
